Alex b&w (1)Alex Cussen (Berkeley, California, 1976) received an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from Columbia University in 2006. While at Columbia he studied translation with Richard Howard, and worked closely with novelist Mary Gordon. After graduate school, Mr. Cussen was in charge of Latin American Spanish subtitles and translation at Paramount Pictures. Most recently he translated the poetry of his father, Antonio Cussen, at the Univeristy of Iowa’s website eXchanges. His translator’s note includes praise from famed Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño written just before his death. He has also previously translated the writer Marcelo Rioseco for the annual edition of the Columbia Journal. As a journalist, he has published articles in the Toronto Star and Cult, a Brazilian literary magazine.
